 Overview

2011 will see the return of the Windsurfing Event taking place at Yaverland, Sandown Bay, Isle of Wight. This was also the venue for the 1993 NatWest Island Games which was well attended by the windsurfing competitors.

The NatWest Island Games at Gibraltar and Jersey saw a good number of windsurfers take part, but in recent years the number of competitors has fallen sharply. Here on the Isle of Wight, we plan for a return to great heights for the windsurfing event in the 2011 NatWest Island Games.

The Isle of Wight is home to some of the best in windsurfing talent in the world. Double Ex-Youth World Champion and the UK's no.1 Windsurfer, Ross Williams, who now competes on the PWA world tour is an islander. His brother Aaran owns the local windsurfing shop (Williams Windsurfing) and has now come on board to organise and run the 2011 windsurfing event.

The Windsurfing Co-ordinator, Aaran, will help change the windsurfing race format to slalom, and will promote, supply and train the Isle of Wight team. Aaran said "By changing the type of windsurf racing to slalom, you will see a lot more interest in taking part. Not only will the event be more spectator friendly, it will be more dramatic too."

So please watch this space for more details on the event, it’s going to be a cracker!
