Primary School Island Games 26th June 2010

The Isle of Wight Council are coordinating the 3rd Primary School Island Games at Sandown High school on
the 26th June 2010.
The Games are a fantastic multi-sport event encompassing 7 different sports and
hundreds of children from across the Island.
We are delighted to inform you that this years Primary School Island Games will be supported by the
attendance of both the full International Island Games Executive Committee AND representatives of all
24 member islands.

Volunteers Open Morning

An Open Morning was held at the Quay Arts Centre, Newport on Saturday 15th May 2010.
Lyn Smith, the Volunteers Co-ordinator, organised the event with the support of the 2011 Organising Committee.
All were available to help answer questions and give an insight into what is involved as a volunteer.

Would you like to be part of the Island Games 2011?

The NatWest International Island Games 2011 will offer a unique experience for athletes, spectators and volunteers. The Isle of Wight Games Association would like to hear from anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Games. Don’t worry if you are not sure how much time you can volunteer in 2011 as you will not be committing yourself to anything just yet. We’ll simply keep you informed of developments as they happen over the next few years via email and links to our new website which will become live in 2009.

Depending on your role, all necessary training will be provided. Travel expenses will also be reimbursed.

Primary school children enjoy taste of games - thanks to volunteers

Over 300 primary school pupils were given the opportunity to experience what it is like to take part in a mini Island Games/Olympic type event at Sandown High School over the weekend. Over 100 volunteers and helpers were present to help ensure the event and sport programmes ran smoothly. Every sport included a number of highly professional young leaders.

Kathy Volunteers after Recovery

After she was injured falling off rocks in the Lake District, Kathy Nightingale found it hard to walk, let alone jog. But soon after she started the Return to Sport Athletics course, she found her confidence returning.
After starting with gentle walking around the track, Kathy was soon jogging once more and regaining her fitness.

Pam Dickinson - a day in the life of a volunteer

In April 1993, I spotted an advert in the local paper asking for volunteer drivers to help out at the Island Games.
This sounded like such an interesting role; I picked up the phone immediately and registered my interest.
I attended many meetings during the run up to the games so that I could understand my role and find out which team I would be looking after.
