Overview

The Golf Tournament in 2011 will be played over two contrasting courses:

Freshwater Bay Golf Club is one of the most spectacular courses in the UK. Set on the downs overlooking the English Channel, this seaside links style course is 5,725 yards long, par 68 which provides a challenge for golfers of all abilities. The course itself is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with bronze aged tumuli dotted all over. The sea “breezes” conspire with the slopes to make this deceptive course a true test of golf well suited to the imaginative shot maker.

Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club is also readily recognized for its natural beauty, spectacular views and challenging qualities. The 5th and 13th holes are two of the best you will enjoy anywhere in the South of England. Although not excessive in length, this beautiful heath land course is more difficult than its length implies. There are some strong slopes and gradients, with gorse, tree and shrub lined fairways making accurate driving and careful club selection essential for successful scores.

The Ladies and Mens competitions will be split between the two courses alternating daily with the final round of the Mens played at Shanklin and the Ladies cumulating at Freshwater. It is expected that a joint presentation will be held at Shanklin.

Isle of Wight Golf Clubs

Including Freshwater and Shanklin there are eight golf clubs on the Isle of Wight. Pars range from 58 to 70 and cater for all abilities up to County Championship standard. Many courses welcome visitors and provide hire facilities. There is also a floodlit driving range at the Westridge Golf Centre.
