Water Sports Festival



A new water sports festival organised by Isle of Wight Council's Sports Unit has demonstrated that a new sport is top of the picks amongst young people.

A variety of water sports were available to try for free during the 'Make Waves' event held earlier in September in East Cowes. The event was organised to encouraged youngsters into a sport they may not often try and to encourage them to continue their interest.

Despite traditional favourites such as windsurfing and sailing on offer, most youngsters tried stand up paddleboarding.

Return to Sport

Return to Sport



The Return to Sport scheme is a project developed to encourage more adults to regularly participate in sport and physical activity. Courses are aimed at encouraging adults back into sport they have played before or sports that they have never played before.

The Sports Development Unit co-ordinates a number of courses per year, sports that include Badminton, Tennis, Rowing, Squash, Bowls, Cricket, Table Tennis, Yoga, Athletics, Netball & Golf. A number of voluntary sports clubs help facilitate these activities.

Isle of Wight Council Leisure Facilities

The Isle of Wight Council manages a number of leisure facilities across the island, with activities from swimming to the Tone Zone fitness gym, badminton and squash to aerobics classes. The service aims to promote health, fitness and wellbeing and encourage increased levels of access and participation.
