Several members of the 2011 NatWest Island Games Organising Committee and Sports Coordinators were in Åland to gather and exchange ideas with their counterparts in the 2009 NatWest Island Games Team.

All of the party took an evening away from their day to day duties however, to host a Reception at the Indigo Restaurant to launch the run up to the 2011 Games.

The enthusiastic gathering included The Hon. Edwin Reyes MP, Minister for Culture, Heritage, Sports and Leisure, Gibraltar, His Excellency Mr Alan Huckle, Governor Genaral of the Falkland Islands and Mrs Huckle, several members of the International Island Games Executive Committee and many representatives from the competing Islands.
This very successful event enabled the Isle of Wight Team to show their guests examples of the venues, accommodation and transport arrangements for 2011.

The underlying theme of the Games was brought vividly to life through a scintillating performance by a Carnival Group from the Isle of Wight flown in specially for the occasion and for the Closing Ceremony.

Their subsequent colourful performance on a larger scale at the Closing Ceremony was met with great enthusiasm by hundreds of competitors despite the steady rainfall.
